A bitterly divided U.S. Supreme Court on Monday lifted a District of Columbia federal court order blocking the Trump administration’s deportations of suspected Venezuelan gang-members under an 18th Century wartime statute, finding that any challenges to the deportations must be brought in Texas where the immigrants are being detained.
In a 5-4 vote, the court granted the administration’s request to lift an order halting the deportations issued by U.S. District Judge James Boasberg. The judge’s order came in response to the government’s summary removal of hundreds of alleged members of the Tren de Aragua under the Alien Enemies Act.
