Jenner & Block went to court on Monday to permanently block an executive order against the firm, arguing the president’s actions are unconstitutional “punishment” for its cases and affiliation with people the president doesn’t like.
U.S. District Judge John Bates of the District of Columbia sharply questioned the government’s lawyer—similar to the tone of questioning by other judges overseeing executive order litigation against law firms—on several points, including arguments over immediate effects on Jenner and its rights to due process. Bates reserved a decision on the Jenner case, indicating that it “may take a little time.”
