“These are the toughest issues for HR to handle, and so it’s imperative that they be involved on a daily basis, communicating with all impacted employees. You know, I think certainly if you fire somebody based on wearing particular clothing with a particular slogan, or based on expressing political views, you could potentially get into hot water,” Goldstein said. “That wouldn’t necessarily result in actual legal liability, but it could lead to a claim. But I think it’s all about constant communication and letting employees know that we acknowledge this is a real issue in the world. This is still a private workplace, and here are the parameters for what’s acceptable while you’re here.”
