U.S. and European regulators are seeking to prevent the artificial intelligence industry from being dominated by only a few major companies, a monopolistic threat that stifled competition in earlier digital modalities, the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice said this week in a statement with their foreign counterparts.
“As competition authorities for the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, we share a commitment to the interests of our people and economies,” read the joint statement, which included the European Commission and the United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority.
