New York Attorney General Letitia James’ proposed legislation to increase state enforcement power over consumer fraud is a signal that consumer protection enforcement would ramp up in the near future, according to a Big Law partner who formerly led a bureau of the agency.
The proposal would build upon already robust state consumer fraud protections, according to Carrie Cohen, who led former Attorney General Eliot Spitzer’s Public Integrity Bureau. Cohen currently co-chairs Morrison & Foerster’s investigations and white collar defense group, as well as its state and local government enforcement team.
