La. Families File Suit Over Law Requiring 10 Commandments in Classrooms

Attorneys from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett have joined efforts with the American Civil Liberties Union and others to file a federal lawsuit this week on behalf of nine multi-faith families in Louisiana in an attempt to block a new state law requiring all public schools display the Ten Commandments in every classroom.

In addition to Simpson Thacher & Bartlett serving as pro bono counsel, attorneys from the American Civil Liberties Union, the American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and the Freedom from Religion Foundation, are also representing the plaintiffs, which includes parents of Jewish, Christian, Unitarian Universalist, and non-religious backgrounds.
