A Maryland federal judge on Tuesday threw out a lawsuit in which a former law student claimed that a King & Spalding summer minority internship program was discriminatory, even as law firms’ efforts at promoting diversity are under increased scrutiny, thanks to the posture of the Trump administration.
U.S. District Judge James K. Bredar said in an opinion that former University of Baltimore School of Law student Sarah Spitalnick did not have standing to press her claims against the Atlanta-founded Am Law 50 firm, concluding she failed to allege an intent to apply for a seat in the program.
