Lawsuits targeting the marketing and sale of nicotine products continue to be litigated across the country, as Philip Morris International and Swedish Match North America were hit with another suit this week over their advertising of ZYN nicotine oral pouches.
On Wednesday, a putative class action was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, alleging the defendants deliberately target young people through the marketing of ZYN, which is described as “tobacco-free.” The complaint, filed by Schlesinger Law Offices on behalf of Alannah Friedman, accused the defendants of targeting teens and young adults through messaging, package design and the use of social media influencers, dubbed “zynfluencers,” to promote the product. Friedman claims she began using the product at age 17 after being enticed by its flavors.
