The American Bar Association voted Friday to extend the suspension of the enforcement of Standard 206, which had required schools to commit to diversity and inclusion, until Aug. 31, 2026.
The vote comes after the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar voted in February to suspend Standard 206 through the end of August 2025, due to the Trump administration’s efforts targeting diversity, equity and inclusion programs, including the U.S. Department of Education’s “Dear Colleague” letter, which declared DEI programs illegal and gave schools two weeks to bring their programs into compliance or face the loss of federal funding.
