\n\tEmbattled R&B singer Trey Songz is suing police officers over his arrest at the 2021 AFC Championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills.<\/p>\n

\n\tSongz (real name Tremaine Neverson) brought negligence claims in a Thursday (Jan. 22) lawsuit against the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD), whose officers arrested the singer following an altercation in the stands of GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in January 2021.<\/p>\n

\n\tPolice alleged at the time that Songz became violent with officers after refusing to comply with stadium rules. He was jailed for a night and investigated but ultimately never charged, with prosecutors citing insufficient evidence of a crime.<\/p>\n

\n\tNow, Songz claims that he was the one being heckled, threatened and harassed by fellow football fans that day in Kansas City. Songz alleges KCPD officers failed to protect him, as did private security contractor Whelan Event Services and stadium sponsor GEHA (short for Government Employees Health Association, a nonprofit insurance company).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cInstead of exercising their professional duty to intervene and protect plaintiff Tremaine A. Neverson, an invitee to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, the defendants Whelan Event Services and defendant KCPD physically assaulted, wrongfully arrested, handcuffed and detained Plaintiff Tremaine A. Neverson in jail,\u201d reads the lawsuit.<\/p>\n

\n\tSongz is seeking unspecified financial damages for \u201cserious, permanent and progressive injuries to his person and professional reputation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tA spokesperson for the KCPD declined to comment on the lawsuit on Thursday. A rep for Whelan\u2019s owner, GardaWorld Security, told Billboard <\/em>that the company \u201chas not provided services to\u00a0GEHA Field\/Arrowhead Stadium since 2019.\u201d A GEHA rep did not immediately return a request for comment.<\/p>\n

\n\tThough Songz was never charged over the Kansas City incident, he has faced numerous other criminal prosecutions over physical altercations. The singer pled guilty in 2017 to disturbing the peace at a Detroit concert, and he was charged in Manhattan last month with destroying property at a Midtown hookah lounge and punching a man at a Times Square nightclub. He has pled not guilty to the New York charges.<\/p>\n

\n\tSongz has also faced numerous allegations of sexual assault, which he denies. He has reached civil settlements with multiple accusers. \u00a0<\/p>\n
