On March 11, 2025, the district court granted the Justice Department\u2019s motion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ql-align-center\" style=\"text-align: center;\">*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0*<\/p>\n<p>Illinois SB 2930 requires certain nonprofits in Illinois to publicly disclose their officers\u2019 and directors\u2019 demographic information, including their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity. The United States Government is intervening in a lawsuit that challenges SB 2930, <em>American Alliance for Equal Rights<\/em> v. <em>Bennett<\/em>, No. 25-cv-669 (N.D. Ill. 2025). Both the plaintiff and the United States, as plaintiff-intervenor, argue that the law violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. According to the United States, SB 2930 \u201cpressures nonprofits to consider candidates\u2019 race when selecting officers and directors.\u201d Doing so, it argues, constitutes impermissible, race-based discrimination.
