\n\tJulio Iglesias has been accused of sexual assault and human trafficking by two former employees, according to a press release issued by Women\u2019s Link Worldwide on Tuesday (Jan. 13). The accusations, which were filed with the Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office of the National Court in Spain, involve incidents that allegedly occurred between January and October 2021 at Iglesias\u2019 residences in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe complaint, supported by the international human rights organization, alleges that Iglesias engaged in actions constituting \u201ca crime of human trafficking for the purpose of forced labor and servitude,\u201d as well as \u201ccrimes against sexual freedom and indemnity such as sexual harassment,\u201d according to the press release. The case was presented to the Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office on Jan. 5.<\/p>\n

\n\tIglesias did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent by\u00a0Billboard<\/em>\u00a0on Tuesday (Jan. 13).<\/p>\n

\n\tThe two women \u2014 referred to as Laura and Rebeca (pseudonyms used to protect their identities) \u2014 claim they were subjected to a sustained environment of control and intimidation while working in the singer\u2019s homes. \u201cMy goal is to ensure that no woman ever suffers this kind of abuse from him again,\u201d said Laura in the press release. \u201cI want to send the message that women are victims and survivors, not perpetrators or guilty parties.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tRebeca added: \u201cI am doing this to get justice [\u2026] so that something like this never happens again and so that he understands that he cannot come and do whatever he wants without facing the consequences.\u201c<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe events reported by Rebeca and Laura must be analyzed within the framework of systemic structures of oppression and abuse,\u201d added Jovana R\u00edos Cisnero, executive director of Women\u2019s Link. \u201cIt\u2019s common for these structures to be reflected in dynamics of sexual violence, racism, colonialism, and extractivism of women\u2019s bodies and lives. They are part of a system that dehumanizes racialized women and denies them the right to live free from violence and discrimination.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAna Rebollar, deputy director of Amnesty International Spain, echoed these concerns, stating, \u201cViolence perpetrated by employers against paid domestic workers is a serious human rights violation. The lack of effective protection places these women in a situation of extreme vulnerability that states cannot continue to ignore.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWith a career spanning more than five decades, Iglesias has achieved remarkable success on the Billboard <\/em>charts and beyond, with 20 songs entering Hot Latin Songs, including three No. 1 hits: \u201cLo Mejor De Tu Vida,\u201d \u201cTorero,\u201d and \u201cQue No Se Rompa la Noche.\u201d A Latin Grammy and Grammy-winning artist, he has reached the Billboard Hot 100 three times: at No. 5 (\u201cTo All The Girls I\u2019ve Loved Before\u201d alongside Willie Nelson), No. 19 (\u201cAll of You\u201d featuring Diana Ross) and No. 80 (\u201cMy Love\u201d with Stevie Wonder). Iglesias has recorded songs in Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, Italian and German.<\/p>\n
