\n\tA<\/span> judge has postponed a jury trial in a lawsuit accusing Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler of sexual assault in the 1970s, despite his protests that he wants his \u201cday in court\u201d rather than have the case \u201ccontinue to drag on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe rock legend was facing a looming trial in October over accusations leveled by Julia Misley, who claims Tyler \u201cgroomed\u201d and \u201cmanipulated\u201d her as a teenager decades ago \u2014 and that he essentially admitted it by referring to her as his almost \u201cchild bride\u201d in a memoir.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn court filings this week, Misley\u2019s attorneys asked the judge to push back the courtroom showdown, arguing that they\u2019ve faced \u201cunavoidable delays\u201d in preparing for trial. And at a hearing Wednesday, a Los Angeles judge granted that request, moving the trial date to May 2026.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe move came over objections from Tyler\u2019s lawyers, who argued that their client had spent two years \u201cdiligently preparing for and awaiting his day in court to defend against plaintiff\u2019s unmeritorious accusations.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cTyler deserves to see this matter resolved on the current trial timeline, so that it may have his day in court and not have this case continue to drag on,\u201d writes the star\u2019s lawyer, David Long-Daniels<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

\n\tMisley (formerly Holcomb) sued Tyler in 2022, claiming she was the unnamed person he referred to in his memoir as a \u201cteen bride\u201d he almost married. She says he abused his fame to win control over her \u2014 including signing an agreement with her parents to take legal guardianship \u2014 and sexually assaulted her for three years starting in 1973, when she was just 16 years old.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn efforts to dismiss the case, Tyler hasn\u2019t denied the basic facts. But his lawyers have characterized the pairing as a consensual \u201cromantic relationship\u201d between a man \u201cin his mid-twenties at the time\u201d and a woman \u201cbetween the ages of 16 and 19\u201d \u2014 arguing that it was legal under the age of consent. That motion remains pending, awaiting a ruling.<\/p>\n

\n\tWith a trial set to start on Oct. 1, Misley\u2019s attorneys asked the judge on Tuesday to push the trial back, arguing they needed the \u201cshort continuance\u201d to fully prepare for the courtroom battle.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cGiven that sexual abuse of plaintiff occurred in the 1970s, the parties have encountered significant difficulty locating crucial witnesses, scheduling depositions of those witnesses, working through issues with reluctant witnesses, and taking depositions in multiple states,\u201d Misley\u2019s lawyers wrote. \u201cThis has caused unavoidable delays in discovery.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBut in Tyler\u2019s response, his lawyers say this is the first they\u2019re hearing of the need to delay the trial date, which has been on the books since April.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was incumbent upon counsel to raise any scheduling conflict with Tyler and the Court as soon as it arose \u2014 not lay in wait while Tyler diligently prepared for trial with full knowledge the existing trial date would not work,\u201d Tyler\u2019s attorneys wrote. \u201cUnder the circumstances, this is not \u2018good cause\u2019 warranting a continuance.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEven when her lawsuit was first filed, Misley\u2019s allegations against Tyler were not new. She made similar accusations in a 2011 article published by the anti-abortion website LifesiteNews, and she made the same claims in 2020 during an appearance on Fox News.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut in 2022, she took her allegations to court \u2014 accusing Tyler of using his \u201cpower as a well-known musician and rock star\u201d in order to \u201cgain access to groom, manipulate [and] exploit\u201d her.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe lawsuit repeatedly cited Tyler\u2019s memoir Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?<\/em>, in which the singer explicitly referenced a relationship with an underage girl. \u201cShe was 16, she knew how to nasty, and there wasn\u2019t a hair on it,\u201d Tyler wrote in the book passage that\u2019s quoted in the lawsuit. \u201cI was so in love I almost took a teen bride.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe lawsuit alleged that Tyler convinced Misley\u2019s parents to grant him guardianship over her \u2014 an accusation that also came with quotes from his memoir: \u201cI went and slept at her parents\u2019 house for a couple of nights and her parents fell in love with me, signed paper over for me to have custody, so I wouldn\u2019t get arrested if I took her out of state.\u201d<\/p>\n
