{"id":6994,"date":"2025-07-21T19:40:01","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T19:40:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usatrustedlawyers.com\/blog\/harassment-case-must-be-dismissed-stars-attorneys-say\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T19:40:01","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T19:40:01","slug":"harassment-case-must-be-dismissed-stars-attorneys-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usatrustedlawyers.com\/blog\/harassment-case-must-be-dismissed-stars-attorneys-say\/","title":{"rendered":"Harassment Case Must Be Dismissed, Star&#8217;s Attorneys Say"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<span>M<\/span>onths after <a href=\"https:\/\/billboard.com\/artist\/lizzo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lizzo<\/a> herself escaped a harassment and discrimination lawsuit filed by a former tour wardrobe designer, the star\u2019s lawyers now want the judge to throw out the allegations entirely \u2013 calling it an \u201cabsurd\u201d case that \u201cmakes a mockery of true victims.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<strong>Asha Daniels<\/strong> sued in 2023, shortly after Lizzo had been hit with a separate, similar harassment case from three of her backup dancers. Daniels claimed she had faced a \u201cculture of racism and bullying\u201d while working on costumes during the European leg of Lizzo\u2019s Special Tour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThough a judge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/lizzo-dismissed-harassment-lawsuit-wardrobe-assistant-1235194368\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ruled last year<\/a> that Lizzo couldn\u2019t personally be sued, that decision left her company (Big Grrrl Touring) still facing the case. In motion filed Friday, Lizzo\u2019s attorneys say those claims now must be thrown out, too \u2013 arguing that Daniels lacks even \u201ca single witness\u201d to support them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cDaniels is not a victim of discrimination or harassment, but a disgruntled former employee with an inflated ego, personal vendettas \u2026 and an unquenchable thirst for free publicity,\u201d writes attorney <strong>Marty Singer<\/strong>, who reps Big Grrrl Touring. \u201cHer frivolous lawsuit makes a mockery of true victims and the laws designed to protect them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe music world was shocked in 2023 when Lizzo was sued by three former dancers (<strong>Arianna Davis<\/strong>, <strong>Crystal Williams<\/strong> and <strong>Noelle Rodriguez<\/strong>) who claimed they had experienced sexual harassment and a hostile work environment while working for the superstar. The accusations included weight-shaming, racial and religious discrimination, and claims that Lizzo forced dancers to attend sex shows.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWeeks later, Daniels filed her own case. Repped by the same lawyers as the dancers, her accusations overlapped with the earlier case \u2013 claiming she had witnessed dancers forced to change with \u201clittle to no privacy\u201d while white men \u201cwould lewdly gawk, sneer, and giggle.\u201d She alleged she had faced sexual harassment, discrimination and had been wrongly terminated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut in Friday\u2019s motion, attorneys for Lizzo\u2019s Big Grrrl Touring asked the judge to issue a ruling of so-called summary judgment, ending Daniels\u2019 claims against the company. They called her a \u201cbrazen liar\u201d who had clearly been fired for cause, not a victim of harassment and discrimination.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cBGBT terminated Daniels because she could not work productively with [her manager], was inexperienced, did not want to continue with the Tour, and failed to comply with safety regulations, Tour protocol and [her manager]\u2019s instructions,\u201d Singer writes. \u201cDespite purportedly being traumatized by alleged harassment and discrimination, she offers no specific information to support her claims or a single witness or document to corroborate her absurd allegations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn statement to <em>Billboard<\/em>, Daniels\u2019 attorney <strong>Ron Zambrano<\/strong> said he and his client expect the motion to be denied and look forward to taking the case to trial: \u201cThe motion is meritless, and the defense knows it, but their modus operandi is to treat all lawsuits as having no grounds to proceed by repeatedly blaming the victim,\u201d Zambrano said. \u201cIt won\u2019t work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIf Friday\u2019s motion is denied, a jury trial is tentatively scheduled for December. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe separate case filed by the dancers remains pending. The judge in that case ruled last year that some claims should be dismissed, but that many others could move ahead to trial.
