{"id":6819,"date":"2025-07-10T05:46:25","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T05:46:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usatrustedlawyers.com\/blog\/faith-evans-sued-over-catalog-sale-profits\/"},"modified":"2025-07-10T05:46:25","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T05:46:25","slug":"faith-evans-sued-over-catalog-sale-profits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usatrustedlawyers.com\/blog\/faith-evans-sued-over-catalog-sale-profits\/","title":{"rendered":"Faith Evans Sued Over Catalog Sale Profits"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFaith Evans, the R&amp;B singer and widow of The Notorious B.I.G., has been sued for allegedly refusing to share profits from a landmark Primary Wave catalog deal with the estate of the rap icon\u2019s late mother.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tEvans faces the claims in a Delaware court petition originally filed last Wednesday (July 2) and unsealed on Tuesday (July 8). The case was brought by <strong>Wayne Barrow<\/strong>, a record executive who became executor of the estate of Biggie\u2019s mother, Voletta Wallace,<strong> <\/strong>upon her death in February.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe petition says Voletta managed an LLC holding Biggie\u2019s assets after the rapper (born Christopher Wallace) was killed in 1997, up until she negotiated the \u201ctransformative\u201d sale of half the portfolio to Primary Wave before her death. The deal, which the <em>Wall Street Journal <\/em>reported was worth $100 million, gave Primary Wave a stake in Biggie\u2019s catalog as well as certain name, image and likeness rights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAccording to the court filing, Evans became the sole manager of Biggie LLC after Voletta\u2019s death. This allegedly makes her responsible for giving the deceased matriarch\u2019s trust, managed by Barrow, its cut of the profits from the catalog sale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cMs. Evans has distributed sale proceeds to Ty\u2019anna, CJ, and presumably to herself,\u201d writes Barrow, referring to Biggie\u2019s two children. \u201cShe, however, has wrongfully withheld the Trust\u2019s [redacted] share of the proceeds, in the amount of [redacted].\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAdditionally, Barrow says Evans has refused to recognize the Voletta Wallace trust as a 50% member of the holding company and has kept Barrow \u201centirely in the dark about the business and affairs of the LLC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cMs. Evans\u2019s actions are particularly troubling given that, unlike Mr. Barrow, she has never previously been involved in the LLC\u2019s management,\u201d says the petition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBarrow is seeking a court order forcing Evans to provide the trust with its share of the Primary Wave sale proceeds, which he says will be ultimately donated to the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe petition also seeks to remove Evans from her position as manager of the LLC due to her \u201ccontinued misconduct and disregard for her obligations.\u201d Barrow is asking to be named the new company manager.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA rep for Evans did not immediately return a request for comment on Wednesday (July 9).
