{"id":6713,"date":"2025-07-01T22:29:03","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T22:29:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usatrustedlawyers.com\/blog\/jury-reaches-partial-decision-but-deadlocks-on-rico\/"},"modified":"2025-07-01T22:29:03","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T22:29:03","slug":"jury-reaches-partial-decision-but-deadlocks-on-rico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usatrustedlawyers.com\/blog\/jury-reaches-partial-decision-but-deadlocks-on-rico\/","title":{"rendered":"Jury Reaches Partial Decision but Deadlocks on RICO"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<!-- do not apply CSS styles to this element! --><\/p>\n<div class=\"pmc-paywall\">\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<span>J<\/span>urors have reached a verdict on the sex-trafficking and prostitution charges against Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs, but have not yet announced the decision as they remain deadlocked on the disgraced rap mogul\u2019s racketeering count.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe jury deliberated for two days before sending a note on Tuesday evening (July 1) saying they\u2019d decided a partial verdict but that there were members with \u201cunpersuadable opinions on both sides\u201d as to whether Combs ran a criminal enterprise, according to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/entertainment\/live-news\/sean-diddy-combs-trial-07-01-25?t=1751405190370\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CNN<\/a>. <\/em>Judge Arun Subramanian instructed the jury to keep working when they return on Wednesday morning (July 2).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI ask that you keep deliberating,\u201d said the judge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe jury will not reveal what their verdict is on the sex-trafficking and prostitution charges until deliberations have concluded. The first count deals with allegations that Combs used violence, money and blackmail to force women to have marathon sex with escorts, and the second claims he transported sex workers across state lines for the hotel parties called \u201cfreak-offs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe charge that remains undecided, racketeering, alleges that Combs and his underlings operated a criminal syndicate as defined by the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act \u2014 the federal \u201cRICO\u201d statute often deployed against mobsters and cartels. To find Combs guilty of this charge, the jury must find that the rapper and his associates committed at least two other crimes, which could include sex trafficking and prostitution, but also bribery, drug-dealing and arson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCombs\u2019 potential prison sentence varies depending on how the verdict shakes out. Sex trafficking is the most severe, as it carries a mandatory minimum prison term of 15 years and a maximum of life in prison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe two prostitution counts against Combs each subject him to between zero and 10 years in prison.
