Reps for Fat Joe (Joseph Cartagena) say the arrest stems from an incident in which Blackburn allegedly struck the rapper\u2019s process server with his car \u201cin a failed attempt to avoid being served\u201d with paperwork for an extortion lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cTyrone Blackburn\u2019s arrest comes as no surprise to me \u2014 it\u2019s just the latest example of his malicious and manipulative pattern of misconduct finally coming to light,\u201d said Fat Joe\u2019s attorney, <strong>Joe Tacopina,<\/strong> in a statement. \u201cToday\u2019s arrest is just the first step, but I\u2019m confident that my client\u2019s name will be cleared from all of these falsehoods and Blackburn will be brought to justice once and for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBlackburn pled not guilty to the charges during an initial court appearance Wednesday evening, and he was released without bail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA criminal defense attorney retained by Blackburn, <strong>David Raskin<\/strong>, told <em>Billboard<\/em> on the phone Wednesday evening that the case seems to be \u201cat the very least is a misunderstanding or an accident, and at the most an attempt to extort some money out of my client.\u201d Raskin declined to clarify how he believes the criminal case could be related to an extortion attempt.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBlackburn represents former Fat Joe hypeman Terrance \u201cT.A.\u201d Dixon, who sued the rapper last week, claiming he was forced to work without pay while being subjected to psychological manipulation and exposed to the trafficking of underage girls and other sexual misconduct.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFat Joe has strenuously denied the allegations, and before Dixon even filed his lawsuit, the rapper launched a suit of his own accusing both the ex-hypeman and Blackburn of extortion. Fat Joe\u2019s process servers were allegedly attempting to give Blackburn the paperwork for that case when the alleged incident occurred on May 12.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe lawsuit that Blackburn is bringing against Fat Joe frames his activities as a wide-ranging criminal enterprise falling under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act \u2014 the federal \u201cRICO\u201d statute often used in cases against mobsters and drug cartels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBlackburn unsuccessfully tried to lob similar RICO claims last year in a sexual assault lawsuit he brought on behalf of producer Rodney \u201cLil Rod\u201d Jones against Combs. The case originally accused UMG and CEO <strong>Lucian Grainge<\/strong> of participating in Combs\u2019 racketeering conspiracy, but Blackburn later dropped those claims amid fierce opposition from the label. Blackburn admitted in a sworn declaration that there had been \u201cno legal basis\u201d for dragging UMG and Grainge into the salvo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe attorney\u2019s litigation tactics have been criticized by multiple judges handling his cases.
