\n\tT<\/span>he producers of a horror movie starring 50 Cent<\/a> are blasting the rapper\u2019s \u201cbaseless\u201d lawsuit aimed at blocking its release, calling it a \u201clast-minute shakedown.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFifty (Curtis Jackson) sued earlier this year to stop the premiere of SkillHouse<\/em>, an upcoming horror movie in which he plays a big role, over claims that he never signed off. He claimed producer Ryan Kavanaugh had not paid him \u201ca dime\u201d and he had \u201cno creative input.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBut in a scathing response on Thursday, Kavanaugh\u2019s attorneys say the rap star \u201ctime and time again\u201d gave his clear approval for the project \u2013 and that he cannot now \u201ckneecap the film on the eve of its release.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAfter almost three years of acknowledging his agreement to appear in the film, Jackson seeks to enjoin SkillHouse<\/em> from its impending theatrical release,\u201d Kavanaugh\u2019s lawyers write. \u201cThis is a baseless and last-minute shakedown.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSet for release July 11, SkillHouse<\/em> is billed as a \u201csocial media nightmare,\u201d in which ten influencers are kidnapped and forced to compete in a \u201cdeadly showdown\u201d where \u201cevery like, share, and follow is a fight for survival.\u201d While 50 Cent has the top billing, the movie also stars actual creators (Bryce Hall and Hannah Stocking) with huge followings on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.<\/p>\n

\n\tFifty filed his lawsuit in April, claiming he filmed the movie back in 2022 without a formal contract because he trusted that one would be signed later. But he says it never was \u2014 and that the producers cannot use his name and likeness without one.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDefendants have billed Jackson as the star and producer of the film [and] have shamelessly and deceptively marketed the film as a \u201850 Cent Movie\u2019 and \u2018produced by 50 Cent,\u2019 when it is nothing of the sort,\u201d his lawyers wrote at the time.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut in Thursday\u2019s response, attorneys for Kavanaugh and the movie\u2019s production company say they have \u201ca mountain of documentary evidence\u201d that he did, in fact, agree to appear in and promote SkillHouse<\/em> \u2013 including a tweet in which he bragged that it would \u201celevate horror to another level.\u201d And they say 50 cannot \u201ccome close\u201d to showing the kind of permanent damage that would necessitate an injunction blocking the movie\u2019s premiere.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cJackson cannot show irreparable harm from being associated with a well-received film he repeatedly touted his involvement in,\u201d write Kavanaugh\u2019s lawyers. \u201cMoreover, he certainly cannot show an urgent need for action by the court when he, for almost three years, has known about (and approved) what he now contends is misappropriation.\u201d<\/p>\n
