{"id":6409,"date":"2025-06-10T21:41:56","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T21:41:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usatrustedlawyers.com\/blog\/megan-thee-stallion-lawsuit-gets-gag-order-over-derogatory-posts\/"},"modified":"2025-06-10T21:41:56","modified_gmt":"2025-06-10T21:41:56","slug":"megan-thee-stallion-lawsuit-gets-gag-order-over-derogatory-posts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usatrustedlawyers.com\/blog\/megan-thee-stallion-lawsuit-gets-gag-order-over-derogatory-posts\/","title":{"rendered":"Megan Thee Stallion Lawsuit Gets Gag Order Over &#8216;Derogatory&#8217; Posts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<span>A<\/span> federal judge has issued a gag order in Megan Thee Stallion\u2019s defamation lawsuit against gossip blogger Milagro Gramz over the Tory Lanez shooting, citing warnings from the star\u2019s lawyers that ongoing posts about Megan could \u201cincite violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe ruling came in a lawsuit Megan filed against Gramz (Milagro Cooper) last year, claiming the YouTuber had been \u201cchurning out falsehoods\u201d on behalf of Lanez, who is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan in 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAt a court hearing last week, Megan\u2019s attorneys warned the judge that Gramz had continued to post \u201cderogatory statements\u201d about the superstar even after she sued her. Attorneys for Gramz argued back that she was merely responding to statements from Megan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn a ruling issued Tuesday (June 10), Magistrate Judge Lisette M. Reid settled the spat by simply ordering both sides to stop discussing the case publicly \u2014 a decision that came with a reminder that \u201cthe First Amendment right to free speech is not absolute.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cBoth plaintiff\u2019s and defendant\u2019s social media postings have been viewed by their large following and plaintiff\u2019s counsel expressed concern that defendant\u2019s posts have generated severely critical and derogatory comments about plaintiff by defendant\u2019s social media followers and could incite acts of violence,\u201d the judge wrote. \u201cAs such, further extrajudicial statements by plaintiff and defendant could taint the jury pool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNeither side immediately returned requests for comment \u2014 unsurprisingly, given that they are now subject to a gag order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLanez (Daystar Peterson) was convicted in December 2022 on three felony counts over the 2020 shooting, in which he shot at the feet of Megan during an argument following a pool party at Kylie Jenner\u2019s house in the Hollywood Hills. In August 2023, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He has filed an appeal, which remains pending.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn an October civil lawsuit, Megan\u2019s attorneys accused Gramz of repeatedly spreading falsehoods about that criminal case, including questioning whether Megan was even shot at all and claiming she was \u201ccaught trying to deceive the courts.\u201d More recently, they said Gramz had pushed the \u201coutlandish claim\u201d that the gun Lanez used in the shooting had gone missing from evidence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe lawsuit claimed the blogger made those claims because she was serving as a \u201cmouthpiece and puppet\u201d for Lanez as the singer sat behind bars. In an updated version of the lawsuit filed in December, Megan\u2019s attorneys said prison call logs suggested that Lanez and his father had arranged to pay Gramz.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn February, a judge ruled that the case could move ahead. Denying a request by Gramz to dismiss the lawsuit, the judge said Megan had made a \u201ccompelling case\u201d that the blogger had defamed her by claiming the star lied during Lanez\u2019s trial and that she was \u201cmentally retarded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cPlaintiff\u2019s claims extend far beyond mere negligence \u2014 they paint a picture of an intentional campaign to destroy her reputation,\u201d the judge wrote. \u201cThat is more than enough to [deny the motion to dismiss].\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn her gag order Tuesday, Judge Reid said that neither Megan nor Gramz \u201cnor anyone acting on either parties\u2019 behalf\u201d can discuss the case \u201cin any public forum or manner\u201d while it remains pending.
