The plaintiffs claim Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch&#8217;s installation plan has used over $760,000 of taxpayers&#8217; dollars and that the project itself promotes one religion in violation of the Massachusetts Constitution.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>  <!----> <!----> <!----><\/p>\n<div data-v-1c1aa57e=\"\">\n<p><b>Takeaway:<\/b> This week&#8217;s lawsuit is not the first instance of residents attempting to maintain the increasingly narrow separation of church and state. Nine multifaith families in Louisiana <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/2024\/07\/10\/simpson-thacher-aclu-seek-expedited-preliminary-injunction-against-law-requiring-10-commandments-be-posted-in-classrooms\/\" target=\"_blank\" link-data=\"{\" cms.site.owner=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">challenged a state law<\/a> in June 2024 requiring public elementary, secondary and postsecondary schools to display the Ten Commandments publicly in every classroom. Justices in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.com\/2025\/01\/23\/5th-circuit-considers-challenge-to-louisianas-ten-commandments-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" link-data=\"{\" cms.site.owner=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">heard oral arguments<\/a> in January after the state appealed a Louisiana federal judge&#8217;s order granting a preliminary injunction against the law.
