\n\t50 Cent has filed a lawsuit aimed at blocking the release of an upcoming horror movie in which he plays the starring role, claiming he never signed a final agreement and has not been paid.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a complaint filed Friday against producer Ryan Kavanaugh<\/strong> and others, the rapper (Curtis Jackson<\/strong>) says he filmed the entirety of SkillHouse <\/em>because he trusted that he would eventually reach a deal covering his compensation for the movie.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThat trust was misplaced. No final agreement was ever signed,\u201d 50\u2019s lawyers write. \u201cNevertheless, defendants have billed Jackson as the star and producer of the film [and] have shamelessly and deceptively marketed the film as a \u201850 Cent Movie\u2019 and \u2018produced by 50 Cent,\u2019 when it is nothing of the sort.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite being listed as a producer, 50 says he was given \u201cno creative input into the film\u201d \u2013 an arrangement he says he \u201cnever would have agreed to\u201d because it might harm his \u201ccarefully curated and award-winning reputation as a film and television producer.\u201d Adding \u201cinsult to injury,\u201d the rapper\u2019s attorneys say the producers \u201chave not paid Jackson a dime\u201d to date.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDespite plaintiffs\u2019 repeated objections and demands to cease and desist, defendants continue to infringe and misappropriate plaintiffs\u2019 intellectual property rights and intend to release the film in the coming weeks (if not days),\u201d 50\u2019s attorneys write. \u201cShould the film be released publicly, Jackson faces irreparable harm to his valuable brand and reputation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe lawsuit isn\u2019t unexpected. Last week, the rapper warned on Instagram: \u201cThey can\u2019t release this MOVIE SKILL HOUSE without my signature which they do not have. What kinda business are they doing? I\u2019d hate to have to demonstrate.\u201d In another post, he later added: \u201cThis guy Ryan Kavanaugh is doing everything in his power to make me kill this movie. This one is going in the trash can.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn Thursday\u2019s complaint, 50 says he only draft term sheets were exchanged, and that he believed a full contract would eventually be negotiated and signed. In order to \u201cavoid unnecessary delay and based on a mistaken good-faith belief in Kavanaugh\u2019s promises and reputation,\u201d he says he filmed his scenes without that final paperwork signed.<\/p>\n

\n\tWithout such a deal, his lawyers say that releasing the movie would violate his intellectual property rights, including his trademarks and his likeness rights. And they say the producers are already infringing those rights by using his name and image to promote the movie and Kavanaugh\u2019s GenTV streaming service.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDefendants have made Jackson the centerpiece of their promotional and marketing efforts for the Film,\u201d the star\u2019s lawyers write. \u201cDespite having raised concerns months ago, Jackson\u2019s name, image, and trademarks still feature prominently across the GenTV platform.\u201d<\/p>\n
