\n\tA Detroit rapper is suing Lyft for discrimination over allegations that one of the company\u2019s drivers told her she was too large to fit inside his car.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a lawsuit filed in Michigan court Monday (Jan. 27), Dank Demoss (Dajua Blanding) says the driver of a black Mercedes sedan told her during the Jan. 18 incident that she was \u201ctoo big\u201d for the backseat of his car and that \u201chis tires were not capable of supporting plaintiff\u2019s weight.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cDefendant Lyft \u2026 unlawfully discriminated against plaintiff based on her weight,\u201d Blanding\u2019s attorneys write in the lawsuit, which was obtained by Billboard<\/em>. Blanding, who has described herself as a \u201cBig Beautiful Woman\u201d on social media, says she was embarrassed, humiliated and suffered \u201cmental anguish.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe lawsuit comes after Blanding posted an alleged video of the incident to TikTok and other platforms, showing her arguing with the driver over his seeming refusal to take her. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn the video, she can be heard telling the driver, \u201cI can fit in this car,\u201d after which he quickly responds, \u201cBelieve me, you can\u2019t.\u201d After telling Blanding that he\u2019s \u201cbeen in this situation before,\u201d the driver can be heard saying that she needs to order a pricier \u201cUber XL\u201d to accommodate her size.<\/p>\n

\n\tBlanding\u2019s post on TikTok has been viewed more than 345,000 times; another clip on Instagram has been liked more than 7,000 times.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn her complaint filed Monday, Blanding says the driver\u2019s refusal violates Michigan\u2019s civil rights laws, which prohibit any discrimination for public accommodations based on a variety of factors, including a person\u2019s weight.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPlaintiff\u2019s weight was at least one factor that made a difference in defendants\u2019 treatment of plaintiff and subjected her to a hostile environment,\u201d her lawyers write.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a statement to Billboard<\/em>, a Lyft spokesperson declined to comment on the specifics of a pending legal action, but stressed that its driver regulations \u201cexplicitly prohibit harassment or discrimination.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLyft unequivocally condemns all forms of discrimination \u2014 we believe in a community where everyone is treated with equal respect and mutual kindness,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
