The legal battle marks the latest chapter in the saga of two of the United States\u2019 largest supermarket chains attempting to consolidate in the face of fierce competition from retail behemoths like Walmart and Amazon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the companies proposed the merger in 2022, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Washington, and Colorado sued to block it, citing increased prices and decreased wages as concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The merger was struck down by separate rulings in Oregon and Washington earlier this week. U.S. District Court Judge Adrienne Nelson issued a preliminary injunction blocking the deal, followed shortly by a permanent injunction from Superior Court Judge Marshall Ferguson.
