{"id":2813,"date":"2024-09-30T16:37:47","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T16:37:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usatrustedlawyers.com\/blog\/dababy-settles-civil-battery-lawsuit-over-brawl-at-music-video-shoot\/"},"modified":"2024-09-30T16:37:47","modified_gmt":"2024-09-30T16:37:47","slug":"dababy-settles-civil-battery-lawsuit-over-brawl-at-music-video-shoot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usatrustedlawyers.com\/blog\/dababy-settles-civil-battery-lawsuit-over-brawl-at-music-video-shoot\/","title":{"rendered":"DaBaby Settles Civil Battery Lawsuit Over Brawl At Music Video Shoot"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/billboard.com\/artist\/DaBaby\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">DaBaby<\/a> has settled a civil lawsuit over a 2020 incident in which he allegedly attacked a property manager during a music video shoot at a Los Angeles mansion, two months after he took a plea deal to avoid jail time over the episode.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe rapper (<strong>Jonathan Lyndale Kirk<\/strong>) was set to face a November trial in the case, in which <strong>Gary Pagar<\/strong> claims that DaBaby and others \u201cbeat, punched, spat on, threatened, shoved, and robbed\u201d him after he confronted them for breaking rental rules at his Hollywood Hills mansion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut in a court filing last week (Sept. 25) in Los Angeles Superior Court, attorneys for both Pagar and DaBaby said they had \u201creached a global settlement of this entire action.\u201d Terms of the deal were not disclosed in public filings, and neither side immediately returned requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn addition to Pagar\u2019s civil lawsuit, DaBaby was also initially charged with felony battery over the incident. But in July, he pleaded guilty to a lesser misdemeanor battery charge and agreed to pay $10,000 restitution in a deal with prosecutors that allowed him to avoid prison time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPagar sued in February 2021, accusing DaBaby and others of fraud, breach of contract, battery and other wrongdoing. He claimed that the rapper and his associates had rented the house for \u201ca private vacation with no more than nine people,\u201d and swore to him that there would be \u201cno crowds, no parties, and no filming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIn fact, the purpose of defendants\u2019 trip to Los Angeles was to gather 40 people and a commercial film crew at Mr. Pagar\u2019s house to film a music video,\u201d his lawyers wrote at the time. \u201cWhen Mr. Pagar asked them to stop, they beat and battered him, stole his phone by force so he couldn\u2019t call the police, and threatened him. Then they vandalized his house and left, after stealing various valuable items.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhen DaBaby was criminally charged by Los Angeles prosecutors over the same alleged incident in April 2022, he released purported footage that appeared to show Pagar using a racial epithet during the encounter. He accused Pagar of lying to law enforcement and the media \u201cnot knowing that he\u2019s caught on camera.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAcross more than three years of litigation, Pagar\u2019s civil case moved slowly. Last summer, attorneys for DaBaby asked to delay the proceedings so that the rapper would not be forced to testify in ways that would \u201cpotentially incriminate him in the parallel criminal case.\u201d Then earlier this year, DaBaby again moved to delay the case, citing scheduling conflicts for his lawyers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBefore the settlement, a trial had been scheduled to start November 11.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/dababy-pleads-guilty-misdemeanor-battery-california-homeowner-sucker-punch-1235057962\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reported by <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a>, DaBaby pleaded guilty to a single count of misdemeanor battery at a July 11 court hearing, agreeing to pay restitution and serve one year of probation.
