As recently as June, he\u00a0helped\u00a0Lynch secure an acquittal following a three-month trial in which Lynch and others were charged with inflating revenues in the run-up to the software company\u2019s $11.7 billion acquisition by Hewlett-Packard in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>He was also in 2018 named litigator of the week after he\u00a0won a huge ruling\u00a0from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in a case of first impression involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Morvillo was part of the Clifford Chance\u00a0team that acted for Lawrence Hoskins, a British national who worked for French industrial conglomerate Alstom. In 2022, a U.S. court\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1Cyc82ntA3qhe8dWhxZnaswHruRx_vpXb\/view\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">upheld Hoskins\u2019 post-trial acquittal<\/a>\u00a0on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act charges tied to a scheme to bribe Indonesian officials to secure a $118 million power contract.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Lynch was an early pioneer of the legal tech movement, having backed Luminance\u2014a legal tech company previously tied to\u00a0Slaughter and May\u2014through his investment firm Invoke Capital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A Clifford Chance spokesperson said in a statement:\u00a0\u201dWe are in shock and deeply saddened by this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with our partner, Christopher Morvillo, and his wife Neda who are among the missing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cOur\u00a0utmost priority is providing support to the family as well as our colleague Ayla Ronald, who together with her partner, thankfully survived the incident.\u00a0Our thoughts extend to the other passengers and crew and all those affected.\u00a0We have no further comment at this time.
