{"id":2189,"date":"2024-08-09T15:47:07","date_gmt":"2024-08-09T15:47:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usatrustedlawyers.com\/blog\/pitbull-song-i-feel-good-copied-earlier-track-lawsuit-claims\/"},"modified":"2024-08-09T15:47:07","modified_gmt":"2024-08-09T15:47:07","slug":"pitbull-song-i-feel-good-copied-earlier-track-lawsuit-claims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usatrustedlawyers.com\/blog\/pitbull-song-i-feel-good-copied-earlier-track-lawsuit-claims\/","title":{"rendered":"Pitbull Song &#8216;I Feel Good&#8217; Copied Earlier Track, Lawsuit Claims"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA new lawsuit claims that Pitbull\u2019s 2021 dance hit \u201cI Feel Good\u201d was copied from an earlier track that was created more than 15 years earlier.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn a case filed Thursday in Manhattan federal court, a company called All Surface Publishing alleged that Pitbull\u2019s song \u2013 which spent 27 weeks on Billboard\u2019s Hot Dance\/Electronic Songs chart \u2014 infringed the copyright to a 2006 song called \u201cSamir\u2019s Theme\u201d by featuring \u201csignificant similarities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe infringement is an exact copy of a discernible portion of plaintiff\u2019s musical work that was copied,\u201d the lawsuit claims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe accusers claim the two songs feature similarities in melody, harmony, melodic structure, tempo, musical arrangement and percussion \u2013 including a \u201cthree-note introductory phrase\u201d in which notes descend down the musical scale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWhen heard in real time, the descending lines of both songs appear to be almost identical,\u201d the accusers claim.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe case doesn\u2019t name Pitbull personally as a defendant but instead targets his record label Mr. 305 Inc., as well as DJ White Shadow (Paul Edward Blair), who produced the track and was also featured on it as an artist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA key part of most copyright lawsuits is proving that the accused infringer had enough \u201caccess\u201d to the original that they had a chance to copy it. In the case of \u201cI Feel Good,\u201d the lawsuit claims All Surface owner Aaron LaCanfora sent \u201cSamir\u2019s Theme\u201d directly to DJ White Shadow in 2011.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI love this song,\u201d the DJ allegedly responded, according to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tReps for both Mr. 305 and DJ White Shadow did not return requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe lawsuit also names Universal Music Group as a defendant, claiming that Mr. 305 Inc. is a \u201cfully owned subsidiary of UMG,\u201d though it\u2019s not clear if that\u2019s true. Mr. 305 signed a distribution deal with Ingrooves in 2019, shortly after that company was acquired by UMG, but Pitbull\u2019s company describes itself as an \u201cindependent record label\u201d owned by the star himself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA rep for UMG did not immediately return a request for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new lawsuit claims that Pitbull\u2019s 2021 dance hit \u201cI Feel Good\u201d was copied from an earlier track that was created more than 15 years earlier.
