\n\tTHE BIG STORY: <\/strong>It\u2019s probably where this was headed all along: Songwriter Cyril Vetter\u2019s much-discussed legal battle over copyright termination reached the U.S. Supreme Court last week, setting the stage for a potential industry-shaking showdown.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a strongly worded petition, the major music companies urged the justices to tackle a January ruling that said artists can use termination to regain not only their American copyrights, but also overseas rights to the same songs. Repped by SCOTUS heavy Paul Clement<\/strong>, the labels said it was a \u201cprofoundly wrong\u201d decision that would cause \u201cchaos\u201d for the music business.<\/p>\n
