M.I.A. now holds Kid Cudi accountable for his bad faith destruction of her contractual rights, business opportunities, and reputation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA rep for Kid Cudi could not immediately be reached for comment. Live Nation is not named in the lawsuit nor accused of any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCudi announced on May 4 that M.I.A. had been removed from the tour after she was booed onstage in Dallas for lines like the \u201cbrown Republican\u201d quip \u2014 likely a reference to criticism she received after <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/entertainment\/article\/mia-portola-festival-donald-trump-19725754.php\" target=\"_blank\">her public endorsement<\/a> of President Donald Trump in 2024. She also referenced her song \u201cIllegal\u201d and said that \u201csome of you could be in the audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cM.I.A. is no longer on this tour,\u201d Cudi said at the time, adding her team had been explicitly warned that he \u201cdidn\u2019t want anything offensive\u201d during the Rebel Rangers tour. \u201cAfter the last couple shows, I\u2019ve been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants. This, to me, is very disappointing, and I won\u2019t have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upsets my fanbase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBut in Friday\u2019s lawsuit, M.I.A.\u2019s attorneys say her contract with Live Nation gave her \u201csole and exclusive creative control\u201d over the content of her performances, with no restrictions on political messaging: \u201cLive Nation agreed to pay M.I.A. over $2.8 million regardless of what she said on stage. That was the deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBy telling the company to remove her from the tour anyway, M.I.A. claims that Cudi essentially pushed Live Nation to break the deal \u2014 causing her \u201csubstantial damages and reputational harm,\u201d allegedly including death threats. In addition to still being owed that $2.8 million fee, she says she also lost merchandise and sync licensing opportunities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn technical legal terms, M.I.A.\u2019s case accuses Cudi of <em>intentionally interfering<\/em> with her tour deal and <em>inducing<\/em> Live Nation to breach it. It does not, however, directly accuse Live Nation of breaching that deal or aim to hold the company itself responsible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tM.I.A. also says Cudi\u2019s statement on her removal was \u201criddled with falsehoods\u201d and that she had never agreed to stay mum: \u201cHe knew her politics. He knew her music. He knew she would not stay silent on stage. He invited her anyways.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tShe also seemed to suggest that her statements had been misinterpreted, both by the crowds and by Cudi: \u201cShe called for a free Palestine. She condemned U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (\u201cICE\u201d).
