Eighteen global bar groups, including the Law Society of England and Wales, the European Criminal Bar Association and the German Federal Bar, have jointly condemned U.S. government actions targeting the legal profession, calling them a violation of international human rights legislation and an attack on the rule of law.
The organizations—which also include the Paris Bar, Union of the Italian Criminal Chambers, Law Council of Australia, LAWASIA and Lawyers’ Rights Watch Canada—say they are “gravely concerned about actions that interfere with the independence of the legal profession at the domestic level.”
