Social media platform Reddit, represented by John Quinn and a team from Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, has filed a suit claiming Anthropic misused its content for AI training but, unlike dozens of other cases against AI companies, makes no claim of copyright infringement.
Reddit alleges Anthropic trained its AI models on data from the site without a proper licensing agreement, profited from the illicit use and violated Reddit’s user agreement. The suit filed Wednesday in the Superior Court of San Francisco County targets the maker of the Claude artificial intelligence technology for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, trespass to chattels, tortious interference and unfair competition.
