Judge Stands By $1 Damages Award in Contract Dispute Over Multimillion Dollar Turbine Project

A federal judge has denied a subcontractor’s attempts to alter a jury’s $1 nominal damages award in favor of the opposing party in a contract dispute involving a multimillion dollar wind turbine construction project.

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Andrea R. Wood for the Northern District of Illinois denied plaintiff The Boldt Co.’s motion to alter a $1 judgment in favor of the defendant, Black & Veatch Construction (BVCI). Boldt, the subcontractor on the project, had moved to mold the award, hoping to recover money it believed it was owed for work it performed as a subcontractor for BVCI before it was fired for scheduling issues.
