John Eastman Pleads First Amendment Protections in Disbarment Appeal

An indignant John Eastman briefly took to the lectern Wednesday in his own disbarment appeal, telling a California State Bar Court panel that he was the victim of prosecutorial misstatements about his role in the 2020 presidential electoral count.

In an argument that repeated claims he’s made in speeches and podcast appearances since Jan. 6, 2021, Eastman insisted he and others found instances of voter fraud in the 2020 election. The former Chapman University Law School dean said his counsel that Vice President Mike Pence could, at the least, pause the counting of electoral ballots that marked Joe Biden’s victory was legally tenable.
