A jury began deliberations today in the “NFL Sunday Ticket” trial after closing arguments in Los Angeles federal court. Defense counsel from Wilkinson Stekloff argued that plaintiffs have no grounds for pursuing a class action against the NFL for inflating its “Sunday Ticket” streaming package because it is a “premium” service.
A complaint originally launched in 2015 accused the NFL of colluding with DirecTV to maintain a monopoly over professional football broadcasting through its exclusive Sunday Ticket service, which streams out-of-market games produced by Fox and CBS that fans can’t access on local channels. DirecTV distributed Sunday Ticket from 1994 until 2023, when it was acquired by YouTube TV.
