Instacart ‘Shoppers’ Bring Biometric Privacy Suit Over Facial-Scanning Data

Maplebear, doing business as Instacart, was hit with a biometric privacy class action accusing the company of collecting facial scans for identity verification without obtaining written consent or providing required disclosures about data collection and storage practices required under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.

In the past month, lawsuits over the stored information used for employees to clock in and out of work were lodged against Calumet Tank & Equipment, a Chicago-based tank cleaning and repair business, and Auto Transport Chicago.
