How generative AI is already changing the assessment of contracts

Much has been written about how generative artificial intelligence has already changed many aspects of the legal industry. We’ve done a few shows on this topic.

One of the areas where the effects of ChatGPT and other major language models are already being felt is contracts. Users can now use these AI-enhanced tools to help them quickly draft, analyze and review contracts. All you have to do is type what you want and the technology will do the rest.

Of course it’s not that simple. The technology is still in its infancy and there are limits to what it can do. We have already seen how it can produce inaccurate results, known as hallucinations.

Nevertheless, there is the potential for lawyers to save a lot of time when it comes to drafting, reviewing and analyzing contracts. And as technology continues to improve, who knows what it is capable of?

In this episode of the Podcast for legal rebelsNoah Waisberg, co-founder and CEO of AI-powered document processing platform Zuva and co-author of AI for lawyers: how artificial intelligence adds value, increases expertise and transforms careerstalks to Victor Li of the ABA Journal about how generative AI is changing the field of contract review and what we can expect in the future.

Waisberg has long been interested in using technology to improve the contract review process. His current company, Zuva, is a spin-off of his previous one, Kira Systems, a smart contracts and document analytics platform that was purchased by Litera in 2021.
