How a Sullivan & Cromwell Leader Landed in Paul Weiss-Trump Deal Discussions

Robert “Bob” Giuffra, co-chair of prominent Am Law 100 firm Sullivan & Cromwell, became known as a legal adviser to the president once he took on Donald Trump’s New York criminal appeal, but it was Giuffra’s key role in helping to negotiate the controversial pro bono deal between the White House and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison that turned heads across the legal industry.

In the discussion, Giuffra negotiated with Paul Weiss chair Brad Karp; the firm’s outside counsel, Bill Burck, of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan; and Trump personal counsel Boris Epshteyn, to come to a consensus on Paul Weiss deal terms that would rescind the president’s March 14 executive order against the firm.
