FTC Warns Eight Companies of Potentially Hindering Consumers’ ‘Right to Repair’

The Federal Trade Commission this week cautioned eight companies about their warranty practices, saying their improper communications with consumers may hinder their right to repair purchased products and warning of potential enforcement action.

“These warning letters put companies on notice that restricting consumers’ right to repair violates the law,” Samuel Levine, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, said in a statement Wednesday. “The commission will continue our efforts to protect consumers’ right to repair and independent dealers’ right to compete.”
