Federal Appellate Judges Denounce Threats, Impeachment Efforts

Two federal appellate judges raised concerns Tuesday about calls from public officials to impeach judges based on their rulings and an increase in threats to the judicial branch over the past few years.

“The fact of the matter is that judges make rulings,” said Judge Richard Sullivan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. “Often someone’s going to be unhappy with a decision, and that means that a person has to choose whether they wish to appeal. We have a system of justice that allows for appeals as a right to an intermediate appellate court and ultimately to the Supreme Court if necessary.”
