A Maryland federal court Wednesday night gave the Trump administration additional time to explain how it intends to facilitate the release of a Maryland resident mistakenly deported to the custody of El Salvador.
U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis of the District of Maryland ordered a seven-day stay effectively giving the U.S. Department of Justice until 5 p.m. April 30 to comply with the trial court’s April 15 expedited discovery order in Abrego Garcia v. Noem.
The Trump administration admits it mistakenly deported Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia to El Salvador’s notorious CECOT mega-prison because of an “administrative error” that overlooked an October 2019 immigration judicial order prohibiting the federal government from removing Abrego Garcia to El Salvador.
