Bitcoin Torture Case Underscores Growing Risks of Digital Asset Theft

A second suspect surrendered Tuesday over his involvement in a kidnapping case where an Italian man refused to reveal his bitcoin password, leading him to suffer over three weeks of torture in an upscale New York City apartment before he could escape.

The suspect, William Duplessie, 33, a Miami and Switzerland businessman, turned himself in to the New York City Police Department, becoming the second person arrested in the abduction and torture of Michael Valentino Teofrasto Carturan. John Woeltz, 37, the first person arrested, was held without bail on Saturday on kidnapping and other charges in the matter.
