Beasley Allen Sues Co-Counsel Allen Smith For Supporting Talc Settlement

Days after a key plaintiffs’ firm threw its support behind Johnson & Johnson’s proposed talc bankruptcy, Beasley Allen, the leading opponent to the plan, sued the firm for breach of contract.

Beasley Allen, based in Montgomery, Alabama, represents nearly 12,000 talc clients with the Smith Law Firm in Ridgeland, Mississippi. On Sept. 4, the Smith Law Firm said it would recommend Johnson & Johnson’s $8 billion proposal after negotiating to receive more than $1 billion in additional compensation for its talc clients. However, Beasley Allen continued to oppose the plan and, on Sept. 10, sued the Smith Law Firm.
