The current crop of newer lawyers is facing a double whammy that could stunt their professional growth for years to come: the dawn of Gen AI in the practice of law and having first entered the profession when remote work was the norm. While there are no exact beginning and end dates for this period, at a minimum it includes anyone in law school or in their first two years of practice during 2020 and 2021, when remote work arrangements were most common. More senior members of the profession must proceed thoughtfully and cautiously regarding generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) in order to help this cohort of lawyers reach their full potential and to protect the long-term health of the profession.
