‘The Room Looked Stunned’: As Whistleblower, Critics Emerge, Here’s What to Expect for Emil Bove’s 3rd Circ. Confirmation Hearing

Bove, nominated for the vacant New Jersey seat on the appeals court, is set to go before the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday in what is widely expected to be an intense session. President Donald Trump nominated Bove last month, and since then whistleblowers and advocacy groups have sent letters to federal lawmakers, with many voicing strong disapproval of the pick. The letters could give a preview of the line of questioning that Bove is likely to face from senators.

In one of the more explosive letters sent to lawmakers, a former colleague of Bove’s raised serious allegations of partisan actions and advocating for lawyers to ignore court orders. According to Erez Reuveni, a career Department of Justice attorney who was fired for failing to exhibit what Attorney General Pam Bondi called “zealous advocacy,” Bove discussed violating court orders in immigration cases multiple times. Reuveni made the allegations against Bove in a letter from his lawyers to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees and the DOJ Inspector General.
