State Bar Offers Exam Retakes but Few Answers About Testing Fiasco

California’s state bar late Thursday announced limited retake opportunities for some people who endured this week’s troubled bar exam, raising new questions about how the lawyer-licensing agency will produce valid decisions about who passes the test.

In an evening email to test-takers, bar officials said they would offer an exam on March 18-19 to examinees who either could not launch the Meazure Learning platform “at all” or could not submit at least four responses on the first day’s essays and performance test sections. The email stated the bar can determine scores for those who filed more than three answers based on “imputation, regression analysis and pro rata scoring adjustments.”
