Meta Platforms Inc. is the latest Big Tech company to be accused of illegally collecting consumers’ geolocation data without their consent through a software tool embedded in mobile apps.
Bursor & Fisher, which is backing a similar privacy claim against insurance giant Allstate Corp., filed a class action against Meta, formerly known as Facebook, on Feb. 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. The complaint alleges invasion of privacy, unjust enrichment and violations of California’s “wiretapping” statute and Computer Data Access and Fraud Act. Counsel has not yet appeared for Meta.
