7 More Canadian Schools and Boards Sue Social Media Giants, Seek $2.6B in Damages

Seven more Canadian schools and boards of education have filed multibillion-dollar lawsuits accusing tech giants Meta, TikTok and Snapchat of disrupting student learning and the education system.

The lawsuits from two private religious schools, three Catholic and one public school board in Ontario, Canada’s largest province, are seeking CA$2.6 billion (US$1.9 billion) in damages to compensate for the massive strain on resources resulting from the companies’ social media products they claim were negligently designed for compulsive use resulting in rewiring the way children think, behave and learn.
